Advancing Air Medical Services Through Collaboration
The Air Medical Mechanics Organization (AMMO) was born out of a shared vision among four professionals who recognized the critical importance of collaboration across all disciplines involved in air medical services. The success and safety of air medical operations depend on seamless cooperation between mechanics, pilots, clinical teams, and business operations.

Mechanics keep the aircraft in top condition, pilots navigate the skies with precision and safety, medical professionals provide life-saving care, and operations teams ensure that everything runs smoothly behind the scenes. While each of these roles is distinct, they are all interconnected, and the success of air medical missions hinges on the strength of these connections.
This understanding of interdependence is what led us to form AMMO. We recognized that while mechanics are the backbone of air medical operations, their work is deeply influenced by the collaboration and communication they have with pilots, clinical teams, and operations staff. The formation of AMMO was inspired by the need to not only elevate the role of mechanics but also to foster a culture of collaboration across all these disciplines.
In air medical services, the stakes are incredibly high. Patients’ lives often depend on the ability of a team to work together seamlessly, and that includes everyone from the mechanic who maintains the aircraft to the pilot who flies it, the medic who cares for the patient, and the operations team who coordinates the mission. Miscommunication or a lack of understanding between these roles can have serious consequences. That’s why we believe it’s essential to create a platform where all these disciplines can come together, share knowledge, and develop a deeper understanding of each other’s roles.
AMMO is dedicated to promoting this kind of interdisciplinary collaboration. While our primary focus is on advancing the field of air medical mechanics, we know that the best outcomes come from teamwork. That’s why we aim to create opportunities for mechanics to engage with pilots, clinicians, and operations staff, ensuring that everyone has a voice and a role in maintaining the highest standards of safety and reliability.
Education is a key component of this mission. By providing training and resources that emphasize the importance of collaboration, we can help mechanics not only enhance their technical skills but also improve their communication and teamwork with other disciplines. This holistic approach is designed to ensure that all team members understand how their work impacts others and how they can contribute to the overall success of a mission.
In addition to education, AMMO also focuses on advocacy. We believe that by advocating for the critical role of mechanics within the larger air medical community, we can help ensure that they are included in important conversations and decision-making processes. This advocacy extends to promoting best practices that encourage collaboration and communication across all disciplines.
The formation of AMMO was also influenced by the recognition that the industry as a whole benefits when there is a strong, collaborative community. By bringing together professionals from different backgrounds, we aim to create a network where members can learn from each other, share their experiences, and work together to solve common challenges. This kind of collaboration not only enhances the skills and knowledge of individual members but also drives the industry forward as a whole.
Ultimately, the decision to start AMMO was driven by our belief that collaboration is the key to success in air medical services. By fostering a culture of teamwork and continuous improvement, we can help ensure that every member of the air medical team is equipped to do their best work. We’re excited about the future of AMMO and the impact we can make together, not just as mechanics, but as a united community of professionals dedicated to excellence in air medical operations.
